Who We Are…

Founder, Tattoos for Tails & Co-Founder, Wild Horses Tattoo Studio

Sam Dunbar is the heart and driving force behind Tattoos for Tails, a charity she founded in 2024 with a simple but powerful idea that creativity and compassion could come together to make a real difference for animals in need. When Sam found herself without the time to volunteer in a traditional sense, she did what she does best and built something from scratch, creating a platform that channels her skills as a tattoo artist directly into supporting local animal rescues across WA.

But Tattoos for Tails has always been about more than fundraising. A big part of Sam's vision was to challenge the stigma around the tattoo industry and shine a light on the incredible generosity and community spirit that exists within it. Through every event she has organised and tattooed at, Sam has brought artists and animal lovers together, building a movement rooted in awareness, connection and genuine care.

Sam is a well known Boorloo based tattoo artist, working under the names Sun Spirit Tattoo and Moon Spirit Tattoo, and is Co-Founder of Wild Horses Tattoo Studio. Her commitment to the cause extends well beyond the tattoo chair she has attended charity events and painted murals at the Dogs' Refuge Home, giving her time and talent wherever it can make an impact.

Everything Sam does through Tattoos for Tails reflects who she is a creative, an advocate, and someone who believes the community around tattooing has the power to do a whole lot of good in the world.

Director, Tattoos For Tails

Hayden De Mari is the Co-Owner of SW Laser Tattoo Removal , Bosuns Barbershop, & Juicy Plum where he combines entrepreneurship with a strong commitment to community care. His passion for giving back was shaped from a young age by his grandmother Lois, whom he watched dedicate countless hours to helping others throughout his childhood instilling in him the belief that supporting those in need is both a responsibility and a privilege.

Since 2024, Hayden has partnered with Lifeline, regularly volunteering his time to visit the elderly and help combat loneliness within the community. He also previously co-founded the clothing brand Anxious Angels alongside friends Sal and Stacey, using fashion as a platform to promote mental health awareness. The brand donated all profits to organisations aligned with its mission, creating meaningful impact while encouraging open conversations around wellbeing.

Through this work, it was a natural progression for Hayden to bring his experience, leadership, and compassion to the Tattoos For Tails team, continuing the incredible foundation Sam had built before him. Driven by a desire to create positive change, Hayden remains dedicated to using his skills and networks to support charitable causes and uplift those around him.

Co-Founder, Wild Horses Tattoo Studio

With over 14 years of tattooing experience across Australia and the UK, Jake Axl is a seasoned artist and the Co-Founder of Wild Horses Tattoo Studio. As Sam's partner, Jake was there from the very moment Tattoos for Tails was just an idea, and has been one of its strongest supporters ever since. Behind the scenes he has helped shape the charity with his creative thinking and practical input, always finding ways to contribute and push things forward.

At events, Jake is the quiet engine keeping everything running, handling logistics, supply runs and whatever else needs doing so that Sam can focus on tattooing. And when the moment calls for it, Jake picks up the machine himself, directly raising funds through his craft alongside his fellow artists.

Outside of the charity, Jake and Sam share their home with a rescue dog and have opened their doors to foster puppies in the past. His love for animals isn't just something he talks about; it's something he lives every day.
